Each week for Wrenching Women Wednesday, we focus our efforts on shining a light on Women in Automotive and their journey’s in automotive. This week, we would like to introduce Bex, Maintenance and Lube Technician in Texas.
This is Bex’s story
“I’ve always appreciated a nice car, but my sister (Jules Crane) is what got me into working on cars. She is a Master Technician and she showed me and taught me everything I knew before I started working for my shop. At first, I was unsure of where I would end up.I knew being a technician with one hand was going to be tough, but I was determined because I love to learn. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. If you really want it, you’ll find a way. As a one-handed technician, there’s constant one-sided physical strain on my body with things like lifting heavy components unevenly and literally just something as simple as turning wrenches. There’s also mental strains that come with it.
When a female technician walks into a shop at 5’2” with one hand, let’s just say I’ve had my fair share of sideways glances. People have an idea of what a mechanic should look like, and I don’t fit it. But I do my job well. I help people, and I’ve come farther in the field than I ever imagined and I’m so proud of that.
I’m currently registered for my ASE G1 and studying for several AOC Certifications.”

About Katie French
Katie French is an Automotive Repair Expert at RepairPal. Her love for the automotive industry began at a young age learning how to fix bicycles and driving around the neighborhood in a pink Power Wheels Jeep. To pursue a career in the field, Katie attended NEIT for Advanced Automotive Technology out in East Greenwich, RI. Since graduating from the automotive program, Katie has worn many hats in the auto industry over the years, and has treated every day as a school day. She currently is working toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Management with a concentration in Fleet Management from Ranken Technical College in St. Louis, MO. In her free time, Katie enjoys empowering women in skilled trades, Jeep builds, and spending time with her family.
